The other night we were watching Andy Griffith. It was a Christmas one. There was an old man who was a store owner who kept doing things to get into trouble so he could spend Christmas with people. It was all very heartwarming.
I got a lump in my throat. I looked at my husband and said, "dang, that got me."
I have been thinking about it on and off ever since.
The need to be....
Loved,
Needed,
With people,
A giver,
Warm,
Happy,
A sharer of life,
A participant of meaningful life.
I have been going through some very interesting times in my life this summer. Things that have changed everything as our family has known it. It has been hard. Change is always hard. There is a period of adjusting. Doubt and second guessing. Anger, Frustration. Sadness. But in the end once things calm down a bit... There is that moment that you realize how far you have come. And there is a time of reflection.
It hit me last night as I was pondering Andy Griffith inviting that old man into the Christmas festivities. That is what we are all seeking. Even in our family. Things have changed and we have to reconfigure how to be.
Our being desires to be loved and needed. To be with people. To give to others in some or many capacities. The want to be warm inside and out. To be happy. To share life with others and have a life with meaning.
This summer has been hard. Plans went out the window. Time slipped through all of our fingers. We may not realize it yet, BUT we have changed. We are giving and receiving love. We are needed. We are with people who care about us, everywhere! (this has been the most amazing feeling the people who have been lovingly "there" for us. WOW!!!) We are giving time and energy and lots of other things. We are warmer because of it. We are getting happier... we need to be more aware of it than we have been... working on that one. We are sharing our lives and living a more meaningful life than we have before.
For me and I can not talk for everyone in our family... the blinders are off and the shades have lifted. I see and feel things more clearly more often than not, now. I have found that I am stronger than I have ever realized. I am more verbal than I realized too. I have learned much in my forty-four years of life and I think that I am using all of it now.
So take a moment to think about that nosy relative or person that you love but they just get under your skin and have them over for lunch. Give them a call. Reach out to that person you see in the grocery store who always bags your groceries and seems a little sad today. Make eye contact and smile and say hello as you are walking the halls of work or paying for gas. Hold your head up high and put your shoulders back, because you mean something. You are a force of love and strength and care when others need it. And all it will cost you is a moment in your life but warmth and love in the bank of life.
Check this out I have fallen in love with a blog this past year. It is Hands Free Mama and her post that I just read from earlier this month was just what I was thinking and feeling.
Check it out. She is wonderful and I will try and link it but I am not good at that yet. So you may just have to type in Hands Free Mama. Six Seconds is great.
